SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTERS (SBDCs)

Elijah Diaz delivers for Small Businesses. See how he plans to invest in Small Business Development to build back District 45.

DIGITAL RELEASE

Developing Entrepreneurs of the New Era

Entrepreneurship is booming in NYC and Gen-Z is leading the charge.

SBDCs will serve as hubs for mentorship, resources, and opportunity.

Running a business is not one-size-fits-all. Industry-specific solutions are a must.

What are SBDCs and What do they do?

SBDCs are economic lifelines for Entrepreneurs

They offer vital services like business planning, legal guidance, and marketing assistance—especially for new or struggling entrepreneurs.

SBDCs currently lack culturally specific and multilingual services

Making them difficult to access for working-class entrepreneurs in neighborhoods like Flatbush or East Flatbush.

    Limited outreach and community trust

have kept many New Yorkers from even knowing these services exist—let alone using them.

Local means LOCAL. SBDCs coming to your neighborhood

    GOALS:

1 . We'll build 1–2 new SBDCs per year in underserved neighborhoods.

Expanding the Small Business Development Center resources through local non-profits and external programs will provide access to residents further away from universities and transportation hubs.

    2. These will be run by local nonprofits, CUNY campuses, and trusted institutions.

Community Boards will have the opportunity to approve organizations that distribute materials and render services from the NYC SBDCs.

    3. Oversight will come from the City Council to ensure accountability and results.

The Committee on Small Businesses will oversee the results of pilot SBDCs.
